A Study in Scarlet
By Arthur Conan Doyle
What a great storyteller! I think more than the detective work, I enjoyed the rich and luscious storytelling. I imagine it would be great listening to it nightly and piecemeal in Audible - so sprightly, adventurous, and action-packed!
I enjoyed being introduced to that iconic character we all know so well in the manner he was first perceived by his best mate, Dr. Watson. I wasn’t just being introduced to Holmes, but the world was being first introduced to the brilliant character in this first Sherlock Holmes novel.
Knowing I was reading a Sherlock novel, I wanted to be acutely aware of the meaning of some new words I was reading. Nothing, I thought, could be too minutiae, but I was swept by the grandness of the narrative, that I just breezed through the book. Arthur Conan Doyle is a genius both in his language and his storytelling.
The book was written in 1887. His stories seem now of very old, but in fact, then, they weren’t at all. I presume some material may be offensive to others, so please read about it first before diving headlong into the book.
A hare read but recommended to make a tortoise one, just to make the story last longer.
